Have you heard; next year's KIDZ mission trip is already in the planning stages.
We will be travleing to Pittsburgh, PA July 24-29, 2011. Planning has already started and people are already signing up. We have reserved 15 spots for the trip so don't delay; if you will be 10-12 years old on the date we leave for the mission trip - you are qualified. Adults are welcome as well.
During the 2010 trip we saw great value in the time that we spent working with our team prior to the trip. Since we have more time to plan this trip, we will be getting the potential mission workers together one time each month to develop that same team spirit.
Please let us know if you are interested so we can put your anme on the contact list.

Kayleen Martin News
I don't know if all of you know, but Kayleen Martin was signed up to go with us on the KIDZ mission trip but has been sick for some time and was unable to go along. She is now in the hospital getting treatment. You can go onto the website her parent’s setup for all of us to keep informed of her progress (instructions below are from Karen Dunlevy).
Go to the website at http://www.caringbridge.org/ . When you go to the website, to get to Kayleen's website, you need to enter - KayleenMartin (no spaces) on the right hand side where it reads "Visit a Website". You can post a comment on the journal. Kayleen will get these messages on her TV.
I'm sure Kayleen would enjoy getting encouraging eCards or journal entries from each of you.

Great Day!
We had a full day of service today with renewed energy after having some time to relax yesterday (Tuesday).
After a very moving evening lesson about the father's love in the Prodigal Son and some prayer time, two of our KIDZ ask Jesus into their heart tonight. Only moments before I had asked God for this mission trip to have a lasting impact on the lives of our KIDZ. I am sure they will be excited to share their experience when they return.
CLEARLY, God is at work in the lives of everyone in Manassas, VA this week!

Tuesday - some time to unwind
Tuesday was our short service day and the entire afternoon and evening was FREE time.
In the morning Crew 3 did trash cleanup in Georgetown South and Crew 9 worked at the food shelter bagging cereal and jelly beans.
Every day we have morning program, at lunch time we have crew devotions and in the evening the entire camp worships together. We also made some new friends from other churches.
For free time today the New Joy KIDZ found a near by pool for some play and relax time. Later, after a great meal and time of fellowship at “Old Country Buffet” we were off to Laser Tag.
It was a very good day for all!

We Finally Made It
Well, we finally made to Manassas, Va. for the Mission trip. It seems like a long time ago since we started planning on those cold days back in January. Those cool days are just a distant memory now - HOT and sticky here.
After a great blessing service at New Joy on Sunday the travel to Manassas was uneventful (good when traveling!). Excitement was rising as we began to see signs for our destination (and the girls saw some malls close by).
Our facility exceeds our expectations, as Miss Missy put it, and the staff is wonderful and brings life to the entire group. We received our team assignments last night and will be going out this morning to see what God has planned for us.
Got to go now but hope to post some video late tonight.

Mission Trip
I am so excited to go on the mission trip! I’m excited to see what different things we will be doing in Manassas, Virginia. I want to experience serving God by helping other people. I think it will be very fun! The mini mission trip went very well, and I think the real mission will be perfect. I’d like to thank Ruth Keenan for praying for me.

Team Building
KIDZ Mission team building lessons continued last night. We found three truths in the Genesis chapter 11 passage that we can apply to our mission team.
* The Tower of Babel story has a clear message that reminds us to check our motives
* Verse 6 – working together we can accomplish great things
* Verse 3 – We can improve our process
Some insights that were gained through the team building activity last night:
First try – Failure
* We failed without a plan and without communication
Second try – Some success after the teams developed a plan
* The team communicated and had a to work together in unison
* We were successful after everyone understood the language (instructions) that were being given during the activity
* Only one individual was giving instructions during the activity
Third try – Success! Improved progress
* Improved our communications plan and everyone worked together even better.
Reminder that Sunday (05.16.10) is our “pot luck” lunch after church. We will have more trip details, packing lists, contact information for parents, review code of conduct, fellowship, etc. See you there.

Final Paperwork Due
Camper Envelopes were distributed last night. You will find more details about the trip in your packet. Please return your SIGNED "Camper Information" forms to me by Sunday (05.09.10) because they will need to be mailed into the GROUP office next week.
So Now it Begins
I am really looking forward to the mission trip with these kids. Last night (05.05.10) we had our first in a series of four meeting to prepare the kids for service. Our focus last night was on team work and all the different roles required in accomplishing a large task. Our devotion was from Nehemiah and we talked about how they all worked together to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. We also had a team activity that required the kids to work together and communicate in order to accomplish a task. When we did the debrief exercise, I was amazed at the “takeaways” these kids had on teamwork; their insights even exceeded my expectations of many adult teams I’ve worked with in the past. We were also successful in our secondary purpose of building trust between the leaders and the kids. God is at work in these young people’s lives and it is my hope and prayer that the mission experience will further solidify their faith.

Dealing with homesickness
Okay, nearly every child is going to deal with homesickness (to some degree) when it is new for them to be away from home for an extended period of time. The Boy Scouts deal with this very real concern with parents and many thousands of first time campers each year.

Keep the kids involved
Parents, when you visit this site, please encourage your mission bound kids to read about the trip with you. We want to keep them involved and excited as the mission draws nearer.
Talk to them about what concerns they have about going on the mission trip. Encourage the kids to share their concerns by adding a comment to this post. We will post the comments, without names, so they know they are not alone. This will also help the leaders to know what issues need to be addressed so that our kids feel comfortable going on the mission trip.
You can also encourage them to add comments about the things that excite them about the mission trip.

Dear
I'd like to share with you a trip that I am going to take that will hopefully be a life changing experience for the people I come in contact with, as well as me.
This is my first mission trip and I am very excited. Along with about 15 others from New Joy Church, our team will be traveling to the Manassas, VA from June 13th thru the 18th. While we are there we will be completing a number of service projects that will touch the lives of many in the community. Through this we hope to make an impact on those we serve by sharing God’s love.
Now, all I need is the money to get there. We will be involved in fundraisers to earn money; however, I will need sponsors. Any amount that you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated. If you are sending a check, please make it out to:
New Joy Church
35 New Joy Drive
Ephrata, Pa 17522
In the memo line write "KIDZ Mission" and add a note with the check indicating that it is to support me on the mission trip. I believe that with prayer and God's help my financial need will be met.
Please pray for me as I prepare for this mission and while we are there. Pray that people will see the love of Jesus through us and will be touched in some way. My prayer is that this trip proves to be life changing for the people of Manassas even more than for myself.
Thank you for letting me share with you what will be one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. If you cannot help in a financial way, please help support me with your prayers.

Welcome
Welcome to New Joy KIDZ Mission blog. This mission trip will be a first for our 10 -12 year old kids. We are using this site to post information for parents and later post photos during the mission trip. WOW; the trip is just over 4 months away.
